The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is seeking a strong, innovative editor to lead our sports department, including directing online coverage for one of the best departments in the country. St. Louis readers and others who follow the local teams from afar, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, are diehard fans who actively track their teams in print and online through our news coverage, newsletters, sports apps, chats and blogs. Besides the Cardinals, St. Louis is home to the NHL Blues and NFL Rams. Our sports coverage also extends to high school sports, local colleges and the University of Missouri as it enters the Southeastern Conference this year.
The sports editor needs excellent planning, organizational and communications skills across the various news platforms. The job not only entails managing administrative duties such as budgeting, personnel and staff training, but also vision as the Post-Dispatch moves forward on revenue generation and outreach on multiple platforms.
The sports editor also will shape coverage and coordinate special sections or big events that involve working with other newspaper departments. (The sports department has been a key player in publishing books, especially about the St. Louis Cardinals.)
Sports are critically important online and in print in St. Louis. Our coverage attracts a huge devoted following, who expect excellent work and lively sections on a consistent basis.
