    JournalismJobs.com - Job Listing - sports editor

    Description:

The Seguin Gazette is a five-day-a-week newspaper seeking a sports editor to head up the sports department, provide direct coverage of sports teams from four area high schools, and cover other youth and adult sports-related stories in and around the community.

While the sports editor serves as the main contributor of sports stories and photos, he/she will receive assistance from the editorial department with game coverage and photos, as well as from a collection of reliable freelance writers and photographers who produce quality work.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, has a passion and knowledge of sports, the ability to write game stories on a deadline, can produce quality photos and can easily establish relationships with area coaches and athletic directors.

The goal is not only to be the person at games but also to expand story lines into in-depth pieces and establish strong connections with coaches, players and fans

The sports editor also is responsible for designing pages using InDesign and editing photos with Photoshop.

Please send resume, writing and design samples to Managing Editor Felicia Frazar at felicia.frazar@seguingazette.com . No phone calls, please.

I had this job for about a year before moving on to cover Clemson and eventually the Carolina Panthers. It’s a small town but high school sports in Texas are damn near a “pro” or collegiate beat. Great newsroom, good people and it’s close to Austin/San Marcos/San Antonio.

If you’re looking to get your foot in the door, it’s a good place to do so
