    Re: Cover the Boll Weevils

Is that like a minor league baseball team or the main high school team? The Boll Weevils?

University of Arkansas-Monticello men's team is the Boll Weevils.

    Women are the Cotton Blossoms.

Whoever takes this job won’t have a lot to live up to. The past SEs haven’t been stellar to say the least.

I want to step up and take that challenge. It'll probably be difficult, but I want to try.

not much going on in monticello, to say the least. mississippi casinos -- not the good ones -- less than an hour away. Ark-Monticello is a D-2 school with not much of a tradition.

Just called them. Left a message. Hopefully, they'll call back sometime today or tomorrow morning. If not, then I'll probably follow-up within the next two days.

  8. You better have great editing skills for this one. From personal experiences, you'll need it to get through a Mike Newell interview.

I talked to Tom White just now, and he said that the job not only requires sports writing, but some general assignment writing on the side. The phone call was pretty straightforward, and I gave him my clips and resume for him to look at. Hopefully, it'll all go well.

Newell is great. He some awesome stories. Gwaine Mathews the UAM football coach is a good guy, too.

  11. True story concerning Mike Newell:
The UAM sports information department had to switch the home and visiting team radio station seats because of Newell's constant four-letter barrage. The Monticello station that carries UAM games then sent its broadcast to the station, where they was a 5-second delay before putting it on the air -- just in case one of Newell's verbal onslaughts made it on the broadcast.
