    JournalismJobs.com - Job Listing - Sports Editor

Award-winning weekly newspaper is looking for an experienced sports editor to cover five high schools in the local area. Our newspaper is one of the largest weeklies in the state of Texas and is located just 37 miles outside San Antonio. The right candidate will be great at developing relationships with athletic directors, coaches and players, a solid writer who can write on deadline and is strong on social media. A background with video/digital media could make you a leading candidate.

Candidates must be dedicated to producing a quality sports section with balanced and in-depth coverage. Candidate will also establish a digital first sports reporting presence via our phone app, social media and our website. Good photography skills and knowledge of photoshop. Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, to design the sports section on a weekly basis is a plus. Training available.

Most important is your ability to write compelling stories that capture not only the game stats but the spirit of the team and the status of the season. We have teams that will be District, Regional and State bound. Must love sports. Degree in journalism or related field or equivalent experience is required.

The Pleasanton Express is the only newspaper in the county. We were established in 1909 and have been family owned since 1974. We have excellent relationships with the community and its leaders. We have won more than 100 awards from Texas Press Association, South Texas Press Association and Gulf Coast Press Association. You will work hard and enjoy a fun, congenial, flexible newsroom. You will be the center of all things sports in this sports-loving community.

Atascosa County and Pleasanton offer a great small community to live in that has the added benefit of being a 30-minute drive to San Antonio and a two-hour quick trip to the beaches of South Texas.

Salary negotiable 30-45K. In summers, we offer you Fridays off from second week of June until the end of July. This is in addition to two-weeks vacation.

Please submit three or more published writing samples, resume and a cover letter to Noel Wilkerson Holmes, Publisher, at nwilkersonholmes@pleasantonexpress.com
