This newspaper has gone through a lot of SEs in the last few years for one reason or another. But they did recently hire a new publisher who comes from an editorial background, for what it's worth. PB is not the ideal location for everybody, but there are a ton of good stories and pretty good teams to cover in that part of the state. What this place needs more than anything else is stability.

asking for phone calls. talk about a man of the people.

  4. Nate Olsen busted his ass at this place before leaving some time ago. That guy would cover Friday night football and would fly out early Saturday morning (read: a couple hours later) if UAPB was on the road in a big game. I'm told he's now working for a magazine.

Haven't kept it with the paper since. Sounds like it could be a good job for the right person.

The Good: Alumni includes three Arkansas-Democrat Gazette writers and four designers. Most recent long term SE, Mike Marzelli is a copy editor at a paper in NH. There are plenty of good stories to write on great talent. (Prep, college and pro natives). The coverage area includes 2 colleges.

The Bad: The shop has been through a lot of turnover and morale has suffered.(Never a good sign).

    PM me for more.

    Hmmm interesting

  8. I would think twice before using the word "interesting" with this position because the sports editor will have completely rebuild his staff from scratch.
Word on the street is that there will be nobody on the sports staff by the middle of this month.

Could be, but it won’t be hard to find two willing applicants. Not in this job market in this economy.

Tis true...both of the current sports reporters put in their two weeks notice this week, leaving the PBC without a sports staff as of Memorial Day.

That happens a lot at that paper, I've noticed.

  12. Seriously, what is going on there for the entire sports staff to bolt at the same time? Me thinks this place has more problems than anyone is letting on.

    What gives?
