22nd Century Media, a growing company that publishes 15 community newspapers and websites, has an immediate opening in its North Shore office for a sports editor with a passion and talent for local sports and news.

The sports editor is responsible for leading the development of award-winning, weekly sports sections within two publications, The Lake Forest Leader and The Highland Park Landmark. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in working in an entrepreneurial, creative and fast-paced environment. This position includes a comprehensive benefits program.

Responsibilities include:

- Planning sports sections that include game reports, features, weekly regulars and more;

- Reporting on and photographing local sporting events;

- Compiling regular content items, like a sports roundup, schedule, and news and notes; and

- Working well with a team of editors and freelancers, who are assigned weekly work.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will be detail-oriented, a team player, energetic and creative. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Should be proficient in Adobe InCopy. Copy-editing skills with a vast knowledge of AP Style and grammar are a must. Previous experience working in a newsroom is preferred, not required.

A four-year journalism degree from an accredited college or university is necessary.
