Saw this ad on craigslist. Don't know anything about the paper.

The Molalla Pioneer seeks a versatile sports and news writer to cover primarily preps with a sprinkling of everything from 4A, 3A and 1A schools and community sports to outdoor recreation such as hunting and fishing and professional rodeo. This reporter would also cover some community news.

Must be knowledgeable in the typical array of high school sports, able to write clean copy for the Web and on deadline and show creativity in developing features, profiles, enterprise and alternative story format pieces. Experience with news and sports photography is preferred. Experience with newspaper page design software is a must. Knowledge of Quark Xpress and Adobe Photoshop is preferred, but not required.

We are looking for a journalist, not just a sports fan, who embraces new media, social media, and real-time reporting. Demonstrated experience with online and multimedia reporting - including video - is helpful. Position demands some night and weekend work. Four-year degree in journalism or equivalent experience required.

We are an award-winning weekly newspaper with a daily Web site located 25 miles south of Portland, Ore. in the gateway to the Molalla River Recreation Corridor. Molalla is surrounded by endless recreation opportunities, including hunting, fishing and hiking, yet close to a large metropolitan area.

Please send a cover letter, resume, clips and references to news editor Bethany Monroe at the Molalla Pioneer, PO Box 168, Molalla, OR 97038 or pioneer@molallapioneer.com. Please put “Reporter position” in the e-mail subject line. No phone calls, please.

Eagle Newspapers is a family-owned company with two dailies, six semi-weeklies, six weeklies, two weekly classified publications, six specialty publications, four printing operations and a mailing service located throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

The name "Eagle Newspapers" should be a stopping point. Small town, but Molalla's a nice area. Fresh from college? This might be your spot.

It's definitely a bedroom community for Portland and Salem. An old cowboy town that has turned very, very suburban. Every year you would get the Molalla Buckaroos, a big regional rodeo event. Eagle is a good community organization and owns some solid locals. Maybe a little too much oversight from publishers, but where isn't that an issue anymore?
