    The Associated Press seeks a Sports Editor for its Mexico City, Mexico, operation.

    Responsibilities:

    - Edit and translate under tight deadline English-language sports items produced by AP for use in AP's Spanish-language services, including items of football, baseball, tennis, motor sports, NFL, and other sports.

    - Edit sport stories originally written in Spanish by AP journalists in the United States and in Latin America.

    - Rewrite items to make the best possible use of elements of interest to Latin American and U.S. Spanish-language clients.

    - Assemble a daily sports digest, and assist in assembling a daily general digest for the Spanish-language news report.

    - Monitor all AP services for sports stories for possible use in the Spanish services, prioritize them, translate and/or assign them to others.

    - Translate photo captions from English into Spanish and move the newly captioned photographs to clients.

    - Work with the Technology department to solve traffic issues, and respond to clients requests and/or needs.

    _ Occasionally report and write stories, both spot and enterprise, according to needs.

    _ Occasionally travel to cover international sports events.

    _ Coordinate with reporters and chiefs of bureau in the Latin America region to arrange coverage of spots news ad upcoming events.

    _ Monitor Latin America and international sports media to be aware of all sports news.

    _ Help prepare a weekly sports calendar.

    Qualifications:

    - Complete fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish.

    - Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.

    - At least five years experience in professional sports journalism in a job that required working in English and Spanish.

    _ Full knowledge of major sports, specially football, baseball, tennis, motor sports and NFL.

    - Strong organizational abilities, capable of handling numerous editing tasks and able to make quick, accurate news judgments.

    _ Demonstrated ability to spot errors and holes in copy under intense time pressure.

    _ Flexibility in hours, with availability to work weekends, evenings and nights as needed.

    _ High energy, flexibility and the ability to work as part of a creative team.

    - Excellent communication skills, via phone, email, instant message and in person.

    Priorities:

    Majority of time will be spent translating, editing and filing sports news stories for AP's Spanish services.

    The selected candidate must be able to obtain legal authorization to work in Mexico if not currently authorized to do so.
