    I think all of Gannett has given its editorial departments quirky names like that.

    Wonder what they'll call the sports section ... the Athletic Memory Recorders?

    It is official from my source as well. I know someone who applied....and the laugher is, there was probably a compromise over the "Life Sports" crap Gannett thinks sports readers crave. In other words, Southern Miss will take a bit of a backseat to little leagues, adult softball and senior joggers.

    Wow! that fuckin sucks. Next thing you know, Gannett will also require its sports staffs to cover all cheerleading tournaments.

    I believe Dan Davis is the editor at the American, now.
    He was consistent about seeking local coverage when he served as editor at a 30,000-circ. paper on the Coast.
