I worked at Greenville once, and loved being able to go to the casinos.
Good food is all around, in places like Indianola, Leland, other small places.
Greenville has good restaurants besides pricey Does, too. (There's also a Does in Oxford.)
The Cow Pen across the Miss. River bridge in Arkansas is awesome for Mexican and steaks and other things.
But the job .. it's a good one for someon in their 20s.
Anyone older is going to get put off with some of the menial tasks here. Dealing with 23 high schools is not what it seems, either.
They concentrate on 15 or so real heavy and ask the others to call in. Several of the schools rarely participate in this process, too.
Schools like Shelby Broad Street and Mound Bayou JFK, for instance. The Cleveland schools, too, are the same way.
Bolivar Commercial covers those schools the most.
Lots of academy sports here, which I hated then and hate now.(Whites only)
But Ross would be a good person to work for, I think. He's demanding and wants a quality product.
The staff is thin in sports, as has already been said.
I wouldn't go here if you are over 25.

I was told that Troy Treasure, a former recent sportsworker there, has returned to re-claim his spot.
This one's been filled, it looks like.

  5. Interesting that they're still touting their Pulitzer Prize from ... wait for it ... 1946. 60 years. That's worse than the Podunk High School Football: Winners of the 1988 National Championship sign still posted at the outskirts of my old hometown.

While we're on Doe's Eat Place, there's one in downtown Little Rock, too. It became the haunt for reporters covering Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign.
Unbelievably good. Steaks and tamales. The Fayetteville Doe's came soon after; I didn't know about the Oxford location, and don't know where else the restaurant might be.
But if you get a chance to go, go.
