    Description:

    The Grant County News, a 7,200 circulation weekly in Williamstown, Ky, is seeking a sports editor. The position’s primary responsibilities include coverage of the local sports scene, but also in sports features and taking sports stories beyond routine game coverage.

    The Grant County News is located in Williamstown, Ky , which lies 35 minutes south of Cincinnati and 45 minutes north of Lexington on I-75.

    Qualifications:

    • Good writing, researching and interviewing skills.
    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field is desired, but not mandatory.
    • Good grammar, spelling and punctuation are required.
    • Ability to shoot photographs and knowledge of Quark Xpress and Photoshop, as well as knowledge of PDF process, a plus.
    • Good organization and time management skills.
    • Willingness to work with the general public on a daily basis providing excellent customer service.
    • Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance required.

    Essential Functions:

    • Write a mix of feature and game stories and provide copy for the paper’s Thursday edition.
    • Provide copy for special sections.
    • Serve as part of the editorial team with duties to include coverage of local schools, community events and governmental meetings.
    • Shoot quality photographs for newspaper and shopper.
    • Develop and write enterprise stories and serve as a back up for other members of the editorial team, when needed.
    • Assist with production of the Grant County Express, a 13,000 shopper that contains news.
    • Assist in production (including layout and design) of newspaper and special sections.

    Work schedule:

    45 hours per week, with some night and weekend work required.
