The Glasgow Daily Times, a six-day afternoon daily in south central Kentucky, has an opportunity for a self-motivated, high energy sports editor to join its award-winning staff. The right candidate will possess strong grammar skills, be able to meet deadlines and work well with other reporters and editors. Page design is mandatory. Coverage will include high school, with some college and minor league baseball possible. The sports editor also takes his or her own photographs and is encouraged to expand their repertoire by writing columns, both in sports and in news. Should you want to venture into the news side via columns, stories or editorials, it is encouraged. Our goal is to build well-rounded journalists capable of stepping into any position. This job is perfect for someone looking to make the jump to a daily paper or a reporter who thinks he or she can run the ship. The Daily Times is in Glasgow, Ky., the county seat of Barren County. Known for its small-town charm and annual Highland Games Scottish festival, Glasgow is an hour drive from both Nashville, Tenn., home of country music and the Tennessee Titans, and Louisville, famous for the Kentucky Derby. It's also a perfect fit for those wishing to continue their education. It's only 25 miles to Bowling Green, home of Western Kentucky University, recognized as one of the top journalism schools in the country. The college also has a campus in Glasgow. We are in the midst of basketball season and need to fill this position quickly. If you're interested, please send a resume and work samples to: James Brown 100 Commerce Drive Glasgow, KY 42141. If you'd like to e-mail material or have questions, contact jbrown@glasgowdailytimes.com. Interested parties may also call (270) 678-5171, ext. 234. --

Glasgow to Nashville in an hour is a stretch. Glasgow to Louisville in an hour wins you a contract with Roger Penske.

Glasgow is more than 90 miles from both Louisville and Nashville. And you're a good ways away from I-65 to go to either city.

Paper covers two high schools heavily, Barren County public and Glasgow independent, and neither is great in anything. Also some fringe schools (Hart County, Caverna).

Pretty sure they have Western Kentucky University credentials, but the web site didn't show a staff-produced WKU coverage.

They might cover the Bowling Green Hot Rods minor league baseball team in the summer.
