I can't either. Maybe they don't have any copy editors.

  2. The ad's a little over the top, but the paper is solid and there are some very good teams/events to cover in Farmington. And if you do like being outside (fishing, hiking, biking, golfing, etc.), it's a nice place to live. It is remote, but like many cities, it is what you make of it.

And the editor will give you a lot of freedom in running the sports section.

It's not all positive, of course, but the positives outweigh the negatives.

A lot of truth to this post. Management is very lenient when it comes to letting the sports editor do his/her thing. Like MWSG said, the paper and community are what you make of them. As someone who grew up in the rural Southwest, being three hours from a large city (Albuquerque) was nothing new. If you're from a more populated part of the country, then you might find that to be a bit of an issue.
The community is also extremely passionate about its high school sports with some very deep rooted rivalries that have a lot going on beneath the surface as well, so there are a lot of investigative-type pieces that could be done as to why that is. However, be aware that with that passion comes a lot of over-the-top reaction, so it's definitely not a position for the faint of heart or the thin-skinned.

FWIW, there's a fair few places where you can be more than three hours from a city the size of Albuquerque. Granted, it's not a huge place, but it's got AAA baseball, Homer Simpson's hunger strike notwithstanding. And it's a pretty drive, not to mention one that a more daring driver could probably cut to 2 1/2 hours. Just buy a radar detector for what cops do turn up on 550.

Actually, the cops on 550 aren't the ones I'd worry about. The Farmington city cops around the time you'll be getting off work? They're the ones who'll get you.
