Evergreen Newspapers is looking for a creative and energetic sports editor to coordinate coverage of nine high schools for our four newspapers. The sports editor typically writes several stories a week and designs and copy edits the sports sections in our papers. This person schedules and supervises freelancers and also updates our websites. The position also entails working with the photo editor to coordinate assignments.

Evergreen Newspapers is comprised of three paid mail delivery weekly papers, Canyon Courier (3,400 circulation) serving Evergreen area, Clear Creek Courant (850 circulation) serving Idaho Springs area, and High Timber Times (800 circulation) serving the 285 corridor area and one free carrier delivery weekly paper, Columbine Courier (11,500 circulation) serving the Columbine area.

Evergreen, Colorado is just 27 miles west of downtown Denver and 52 miles west from Denver International Airport. Evergreen is a foothills/mountain town that offers many outdoor recreation activities. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
At least two years' professional experience as a sports writer and page designer
Must also be proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, to design the sports sections on a weekly basis
Have experience scheduling freelancers
Experience and drive to use social media
Possess flair to drive new ideas for local sports coverage
Ability to work independently with superior results
Must have valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle

Essential Functions
Write or assign to freelancers all sports stories needed for the four papers each week
Work with photo editor to coordinate assignments
Write a mixture of game stories and feature stories for the sports pages
Edit copy and design the four sports sections
Use InDesign and Photoshop to design sports sections
Plan and coordinate space and coverage needs with editor
Develop relationships with area coaches to facilitate the flow of information to the newspaper
Update the websites with current information
Meet established deadlines of the newspaper

Good thing the OT rule will apply to the SE, as the limited circulation exemption only applies to newspapers or newspaper groups with a total circulation of less than 4,000. You'll also be driving a lot and dealing with traffic. It's quite a haul going from Columbine to Evergreen and Idaho Springs.
