    Description
    Manages the Sports Department for the El Paso Times Newsroom. Functions include, but are not limited to, the editing of all sports department work, ensuring the quality of all the department’s publications and the development of all departmental staff. Performs other newsroom functions as required. Will be able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

    Requirements
    Four-year college degree required; preferably in journalism. Experienced in various areas of journalism to include copyediting and reporting. Previous sports news experience is a plus. This position requires strong editing and page layout abilities. Must be able to effectively handle multiple priorities and possess strong leadership, communication and organizational skills. Will require flexibility to work unconventional hours to include evenings, weekends and holidays. Driving for company business is required, therefore must possess and maintain transportation, a valid driver license, current automobile liability insurance and a safe driving record. Bi-lingual abilities in English and Spanish are a plus.

    A fellow named Matt Johnson, who was promoted from assistant sports editor about a year ago.
