A 4,600 circulation weekly in north central Iowa is accepting applications for a full-time sports editor position. As part of the Omaha-World Herald companies, this is an excellent opportunity to advance. We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic sports journalist who loves local high school sports. The position would involve covering several small area schools with a focus on the hometown team and parochial school, using stringers and freelance photographers on occasion. This position requires strong communication, organizational and motivational skills. Minimum requirements include five years experience writing for a newspaper or other publication or a college degree in journalism. Qualified candidates must demonstrate the ability to write clear, concise and compelling sports stories and paginate appealing pages using QuarkXpress. The ability to take photos is required.
If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding position in a newsroom with a strong team atmosphere, this may be the perfect job for you. Please send us a letter that includes your vision of what an ideal sports section should be, as well as references, salary requirements and your resume to Editor: Algona Upper Des Moines, PO Box 400, Algona, IA 50511.
