Join the Express team! The Washington Post Express is looking to draft a sports-savvy editor who has strong news judgment and knows the D.C. teams. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Express’ style and embrace a feature-driven sports section that goes beyond the box score. You’ll set the daily sports lineup, manage freelancers, trim down stories (Post, wire and Express exclusives), select photos, craft clever headlines and other display type, occasionally write short pieces — such as the daily “Three Pointers” column — and ensure the sports section is a thrill to read and free of errors. You’ll keep an eye on developments, update the sports pages and post stories to the web. You’ll also need to be able to pitch in on editing news stories, as needed.

Must-haves: Strong editing skills and news judgment; professional experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; knowledge of AP style, especially sports style; knack for penning great headlines; careful attention to detail; and a flexible and fun attitude.

Bonus: Experience with WordPress, skilled with Photoshop cutouts, interest in other Express sections.

Please send your résumé and cover letter to workatexpress@washpost.com. Include headline examples and a critique of Express’ sports section.

Published by The Washington Post Co., Express is read by more than 300,000 commuters Monday through Friday. Express is based in downtown D.C., near McPherson Square Metro.
