    Description:
Here's an opportunity to jump in and cover a top-25 team, a Hall of Fame coach and what could be a very exciting football season at Kansas State.

The Manhattan Mercury is looking to fill an immediate opening for a dynamic sports editor. We need a multi-talented person who will cover some of the major K-State sports beats while also handling scheduling, copy-editing and pagination responsibilities. Strong news judgment, a wide-ranging knowledge of sports and a mastery of journalistic conventions are essential.

The sports editor oversees a full-time sports reporter as well as part-time reporters. This person also coordinates photo and video coverage. In addition to Kansas State, the staff covers seven area high schools and some youth sports.

The Mercury is a family-owned publication with a circulation of about 10,000. It is an evening newspaper on weekdays with a Sunday morning edition. Manhattan is a young, vibrant city of 56,000 in the scenic Flint Hills. It has a small-town atmosphere with big-city amenities, such as cultural events and restaurants. Nearby, Tuttle Creek Lake and the Konza Prairie nature preserve provide lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

The Mercury offers a competitive salary as well as a benefits package that includes medical, vision, dental, three weeks of paid vacation after a year and a profit-sharing plan. Bachelor's degree and reporting or editing experience strongly preferred.

To apply, please send a cover letter, resume and five work samples to executive editor Megan Moser at mmoser@themercury.com. No phone calls, please.

Good luck finding a place to live in Manhattan, where even Hell's Kitchen is out of control for real estate prices. Might have to live in Brooklyn? Not to mention this is an insane commute

Umm ... you're thinking of the wrong Manhattan here. This is in Kansas, not New York.

Though certainly a New York-to-Kansas commute (or vice-versa) would be "insane.":D
