The Oconee Enterprise, a weekly newspaper in Watkinsville, Ga., is seeking a full-time sports editor to cover the five high schools in the county.

Located about 10 minutes from Athens and the University of Georgia main campus, Oconee County has a lot to offer throughout the season, as schools in the area are routinely competing with the best in the state, especially during the spring season.

The editor will lead a two-person sports staff, which primarily covers five high schools.

In addition to writing eight to 10 stories a week, the ideal candidate should be able to take photos of all sports, from football to volleyball, and be comfortable with social media such as Twitter and Instagram.

The sports editor also coordinates weekly coverage of Oconee County high school sports and budgets a plan to cover a diverse range of high school, and some middle school, sports in the area.

Reporting on high school sports is the priority, but chances to cover the Georgia Bulldogs do pop up from time to time.

The sports editor job is a bit of a do-it-all position, and a knowledge of Quark is a big plus for the right candidate as layout is a high priority.

Oconee County is a nice place to live for those who don't like the college town of Athens, but for those that like the latter can certainly live in Athens as it's just a short ride (and cheaper for the most part).

Please send a cover letter, resume and 3-5 writing samples to oconeeenterprise@mindspring.com

Hometown of one John Wes Townley, former NASCAR driver and heir to the Zaxby's chicken fortune. Esteemed sports writer Jeff Hood (and Morgan County graduate) also claims this area as his residence. It's a real pretty part of the state.
