    Lurking/Method - thanks. I'll keep your points in mind. I thought I was looking in the right places, but maybe you have some more ideas for me? I'm open to any and all help. And yes, $50k is a bit out of my range, but hats off to you and your success!

    I'm unaware of anyone I owe an apology to. Fact is googly, at 30+ posts on this board, all on just the 2 threads about this job, I'd venture to guess an apology is the least of your concerns. Give it a rest already!

    Maybe this source(s) isn't all it's cracked up to be?

    Who was OK talking to about sources? Knowing someone who knows someone who applied and was approached is a pretty good source to me. Unless, of course, they lied about the experience. But considering that both work at larger papers, I doubt how this would be a step up in qualifications. Just a hunch.
