The Tuscaloosa News is seeking a full-time sports designer to join the universal desk of its 30,000-circulation newspaper. The position is primarily sports but will include news page responsibilities as needed. The candidate should be familiar with Web publishing and can expect an expanding online role. The Tuscaloosa News produces a consistent Top 10 Associated Press Sports Editors section in one of the best college sports markets in the nation with a highly motivated sports staff that has high standards and expectations. The Tuscaloosa News is part of the New York Times Regional Media Group. We foster a diverse, collaborative work environment and offer competitive pay and benefits. Submit application letter, resume, three references and at least three page design examples and three headlines to News Editor Amy Robinson by email at amy.robinson@tuscaloosanews.com or by mail at The Tuscaloosa News, 315 28th Ave., Tuscaloosa AL 35401.

Matt Burrowes left our staff. His wife got a great job out of town that prompted the move. Matt did a great job for us and will be missed.

The job description doesn't state so, but experience in the "war room" on a high school football Friday night is essential for this position. We haven't missed a high school football deadline since 2008 and we're not anxious to break the streak.

Sounds like a good gig. I've worked with Tommy Deas before and can say that he was a pleasure to work with. Good folks over there at The Tuscaloosa News.

Is this under the Alabama umbrella of CNHI? God forbid....

I fear if CNHI owned it, they probably would have run it into the ground by now.

Tommy is definitely good people. I've interned and done other work for him in the past. T-News has a great sports staff.
