    The Aiken Standard, a 16,000 circulation daily newspaper located in Aiken, S.C. is seeking a copy editor/ page designer for the Sports Department. The newspaper, owned by Evening Post Publishing Company, covers the close-knit community of Aiken and surrounding towns.?We’re looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of taking a role in all operations on our multi-platform desk — editing local copy, doing daily page design, web editing and taking a role in our social media sites. The position is for evening shifts, and will also afford the opportunity to do occasional sports writing and event coverage. We primarily cover high school, college and community sporting events, but our community includes Augusta National Golf Course among other prestigious institutions.?This is a full-time position, with a pay rate that equates relevant experience in the business, as well as insurance and 401(k) benefits.?Responsibilities include:
    • Daily copy editing for style and accuracy
    • Daily newspaper page design
    • Daily headline writing
    • Formatting, scheduling and posting editorial content online daily
    • Proofreading newspaper pages daily for quality control (typography, headlines, photo captions)
    The successful candidate will have:
    • Copy-editing experience at a professional news operation with a daily content schedule
    • Solid familiarity with AP Style
    • Experience and expertise with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop
    • Experience in web publishing a plus
    • Experience working in a Sports Department and familiarity with the content of a daily Sports section

    The Aiken Steeplechase Association, founded in 1930, hosts the Imperial Cup each March and the Holiday Cup in October, both of which are steeplechase races sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association. This event shows large attendances of more than 30,000 spectators.
