Sports copy editor, Marietta, Ga.

    The Marietta Daily Journal is seeking a full-time sports copy editor/reporter for a Atlanta metro-suburban daily paper. The job revolves around coverage of 20 area high schools, Kennesaw State University and an active recreational sports scene.

    Candidates must be able to cover a game and writer a player feature, and also someone who can find the interesting sidebars and enterprising stories our readers expect.

    The right candidate must be able to take those stories, and with the use of our award winning photo department, design eye-catching pages that draw the reader’s attention.

    Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, at least one-year experience as a sports writer/sports copy editor. Internships and work on college newspapers will be considered. Other duties will include – writing on a tight deadline, proficient in spelling, grammar, punctuation and an overall attention to detail. Must be knowledgeable in Quark Xpress, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Word.

    Applicants must have a valid drivers license and good driving record.

    This position comes with a competitive salary and benefits package.

    Is this the place where it's verboten to cover major sports events when they happen to take place just down the street in Atlanta?

    Yes, but the turnover is so high that you could be sports editor in a matter of weeks.

    Nah. We get just enough n00bs coming in that we need to keep warning them off about Marietta, Killeen, the JRC, &c.

    It's probably not a good idea, but maybe we should consider having sticky good job/bad job threads. Enough people vote on a bad job, they get on the Hall of Suck. That way, newbs can be properly warned about our favorite garden spots.

    Nobody goes to Marietta.

    And there's a good reason for that.

    You just don't need a job that bad.
