    Who needs pro sports?

The Omaha World-Herald covers a perennial college football power and its rabid fan base, three Division I basketball programs, the College World Series, a Triple-A baseball team and dozens of college and high school programs from across the region.

There’s also a steady diet of Olympic trials, national championships and golf tournaments to fill the calendar at a place where sports is practically front-page news on a daily basis.

And we’re taking serious steps to expand our reach, and you can help.

The Omaha World-Herald is looking for a hybrid copy editor/online editor to join our award-winning sports department. You would split time each week between daily editing and page layout for our print publication and website management that includes posting stories, sharing content on social media, live event coverage, etc.

And you’d do it in a department that’s passionate about experimenting online. Our sports department is perennial power in the APSE contest honoring the nation’s top print and digital news organizations.

The role of an online editor is to maintain and enhance Omaha.com with a focus on content management and promotion that includes editing and posting, daily management of our high school sports website and breaking news/live event coverage. This person would write engaging and
SEO-friendly headlines, monitor and post on social media channels, update the website and work with the sports desk to maximize impact of all of our content across both web and print platforms.

A successful candidate for this position would be a heavy news consumer with an ability to balance feature stories, live news and more, one with good news judgement, solid editing skills and who will help the team produce engaging original content for our audience while showing an ability to boost the
    impact of others’ work.

Deadline to apply: Sept. 1. Email resume, cover letter and work samples to Assistant Sports Editor Kristin Donovan at kristin.donovan@owh.com. Please put "online editor" in the subject line.

Why you should come to Omaha: The Omaha World-Herald is the flagship paper of BH (Berkshire Hathaway) Media Group. Omaha -- Nebraska's largest city -- has a population of more than 415,000 and frequently shows up on "best places to live" lists. The city boasts a strong economy and low cost of living, thriving music scene, restaurants galore, award-winning schools, and a nationally renowned zoo.
