The Dickinson Press is looking for someone with a passion for sports who can work closely within a small newsroom to create an eye-catching daily sports section. The sports department includes a reporter, editor and a few stringers. The Press is looking for someone to write, take photos and lay out pages. If you have a degree in journalism, two or more years in the newspaper business, know how important it is to keep local papers full of local news, have a firm grasp of AP Style and are familiar with Quark, send in your resume, writing and layout samples. The Press publishes six days a week and serves much of southwestern North Dakota and a touch of eastern Montana. Dickinson houses a state university and is just miles from the picturesque Theodore Roosevelt National Park. E-mail your resume to jmcbride@thedickinsonpress.com or mail to: The Dickinson Press Attn: Editor P.O. Box 1367 Dickinson, ND 58601

Most people would make it in 3.5, too. These are ND highways here, as straight, flat and empty as you can possibly imagine and 75 is the speed limit.

You can also make Bismarck in 1.5 hours, and that's 100k people, which I know you city-dwellers would consider a nothing town, but it's not bad if you are used to living in smaller towns.

I think Dickinson's a little south of where the bulk of the oil money is, but the entire state is still in excellent economic shape, which is nice.

Dickinson State is a good Division III program.

Dickinson High (the Midgets) is a solid player in North Dakota's highest classification, and Trinity High in a solid Class B program.

Pretty area, lots of geography. This isn't the pancake-flat Red River Valley part of ND. Plus the Badlands are 30 miles away.

It's remote, but not a bad place to live.

A note: A sports copy editor is going to enjoy some of the last names in SW North Dakota, with the German/Russian, Ukranian and Native American ancestry of the population. They can be testers, not like the standard Johnson, Olson, Larson, Mattson, Swenson, etc. like in mucn of the rest of the state.
