Those pro NFL, NBA and NHL teams are so much better than the amateur ones.

Just curious: What's a gig like this pay?

    March Madness means something here?
    It means everything in Raleigh.
Ugh. I hate the pecking order of that job description, but it illustrates the difference in the two markets.
Salary: Guessing $32K-42K based on experience.

Go on the low end of that guess ...

I'd go below that guess. Talked to a friend of mine at the Observer, said they've been hiring kids fresh out of college and paying high 20s. Unreal.

More like a sign of where the industry is at.

Yeah, they started doing that when they cranked up doing those hyper-local community papers a little over a year ago, and its now moved over to the uni desk ... and I remember the days there when you wouldn't even be considered for a job there unless you had at least five years experience at a small to medium daily ...

When I was in college, the Charlotte Observer was my dream destination.

Well, until I moved on to Sports Illustrated.

Sad. I had a newspaper internship 13 years ago that paid more than that when you break it down to weekly pay.

EDIT: From what little I've heard, Gannett is paying much more at its regional hubs. Anyone know if that's the case?
