NJ Advance Media is a new digitally focused media company providing content, sales and marketing services for the most popular sources of news and information in New Jersey, including NJ.com and The Star-Ledger. We are dedicated to serving the people and businesses of New Jersey with top-quality journalism and marketing solutions across our leading print and digital platforms.

We have multiple opportunities in content, sales and marketing. If you're a creative, motivated and entrepreneurial team player who thrives in a highly collaborative work environment, we want you to join our company. The ideal candidate embraces the rapidly evolving media landscape and thrives in a culture of innovation.

This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a newly added Sports Columnist position covering the Philadelphia market. This is a highly-visible role for a digital journalist who carries an authoritative voice and strong opinions -- someone who can quickly digest developments and then generate and communicate with his or her audience. Within minutes. You will develop opinion pieces to galvanize, engage and grow an audience across multiple platforms by posting frequently and actively engaging your audience in comment strings on NJ.com and across social media. If you have a passion for sports and enthusiasm for cutting-edge, “real time” journalism and digital media, this is your chance to leverage your talent to do what you love, add a strong voice to the online discussion, and help us build a media company for the future.

We want an experienced journalist who is fearless and talented. This could be a great opportunity whether you are a columnist at a smaller organization looking to step up to a more vibrant, dynamic assignment, or a sports writer at a larger organization looking to become a columnist. You'll need a strong voice and distinctive style, and the ability to thrive in a digital arena. In addition, you will have:
A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

At least three years of journalism experience with proven ability in sports reporting and writing.

Proven skill in building, maintaining and engaging an active audience for top-tier sports teams.

The ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately.

A solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure.

Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) practices.

Experience using social media to source and promote content is preferred.

Demonstrated capability in capitalizing on high-value topics by engaging audiences frequently and with urgency.

Man, this would be a dream job if Rich Kotite were still around.
