    9News /KUSA is looking for a sports anchor to join our big team. 9News is Home of the Broncos and has an exclusive partnership with the Colorado Rockies. Our team covers all of the professional sports teams in Colorado as well as colligate sports across the state. 9News is the only news organization that has dedicated staff to covering high school sports as well. This position will require a passion for all sports, creative instincts, innovative production and a big personality. Candidates should be able to demonstrate anchoring and memorable storytelling in covering a wide variety of sports. Travel with teams and hosting some of our many sports specials will also be a part of this unique opportunity. Sports in Colorado are often big news and we are looking for the perfect candidate who can connect with the teams and share the “sports insider” information with viewers and online users. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate creative online writing skills and have a very robust social media strategy.

    Responsibilities • Anchors newscasts. • Contributes story ideas and participates in editorial meetings. • Writes script for stories and edits newscast copy. • Interviews appropriate people to cover news stories. • Enterprises and reports daily sports stories for on-air and online. • Writes and posts daily web stories. • Uses social media tools to communicate new stories and create market buzz. • Contacts sources and develops sports stories. Interviews appropriate people to cover sports stories. • Edits video for sportscasts • Attends press conferences. • Develops stories periodically assigned by the assignment desk. • Develops special assignment series as directed by Executive Producer.

    Requirements: • 3-5 years television anchoring and reporting experience; College degree in journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Strong on-air presentation. • Previous sports anchor experience. • Ability to develop strong contacts. • Strong writing skills for on-air and online. • Social media skills and experience aggregating many followers • Demonstrated newsroom leadership skills. • Current valid driver’s license and excellent driving history required.

    I talked with a co-worker earlier this week after a Denver-centric sports blog did an April Fools' prank that the main sports anchor at the station got the boot -- something many in the populace would hold a parade for such an occasion. And the next day, this job pops up.
