Speaking to a high school class about journalism

As I have mentioned before, I was a sports writer for 11 years full-time, then another five part-time.

I went part-time because I went back to school, got my teaching degree and started teaching full-time.

I have taught journalism for a couple of years, but I mainly teach history.

Here are some things I have done when I speak to classes.

(Talking to the teacher first has already been mentioned).

Bring two copies of the section, tape each page to the front board and explain a little about it.

(Probably worth posting A-1, local front and Editorial, too).

Pose a couple of ethical questions. "You cover a team and they offer you free tickets, etc.).

Ask them what they think about high school sports coverage in the local papers.

Ask them what they think the role of sports coverage in their school paper?

Ask them how they get their sports information.
