Y'all post when all those crappy other movies come on TV, so I thought I'd launch a thread devoted to one of John Wayne's best. It also stars Dean Martin, George Kennedy, James Gregory and (pre-LSD) Dennis Hopper.

    It just started on AMC.

I prefer TMWSLV, but SOKE is a good one, too.

I need to pick up Rio Bravo on CD one of these days as well.

And It's on again at 4:30p.m. Central Time this afternoon, too! Thanks to I_W for an alert for such a great movie...my favorite western.

Big Jake might be my favorite movie starring The Duke. But this one is in the top 10, maybe top 5.

    The Duke's Best Westerns

    1. True Grit (won't argue with the Oscar, even if Glen Campbell was in it)
    2. The Searchers
    3. The Shootist
    4. McLintock! (Maureen O'Hara at her redheaded-spitfire best; no less than equal to The Quiet Man)
    5. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (even if it really is a Jimmy Stewart movie)
    6. Fort Apache/She Wore a Yellow Ribbon/Rio Grande (gotta get Ford's cavalry trilogy in there)
    7. Big Jake
    8. Red River
    9. Rio Bravo/El Dorado (basically the same movie, but that can be said about most of the Duke's westerns)
    10. Rio Lobo (can't have too many Rios)

Got a box set a few years ago for Christmas that had SOKE, TMWSLV, El Dorado, The Shootist and True Grit. I've damn near burned a hole through it.
