How the hell did I forget to list Sweet Soul Music?
It's a classic that Springsteen's covered many times

MxPx - Top Of The Charts

They said, "You need to play it better"
They said, "Just sing like Eddie Vedder
And bring us something we can sell"

Not the best cover I've ever seen the Boss do but it's pretty good. The Jam does a great cover of it.

"Monterey" by the Animals mentions everyone who was anyone at the Monterey Pop Festival.

Hank Jr. has changed some of the artists in "If you don't like Hank Williams ..." to mention more modern acts like Van Halen and Kid Rock.

Kenny Chesney has namechecked Jimmy Buffett on just about every album he's done.

And does Alan Jackson's "5 o'clock Somewhere" count as namechecking Buffett since he actually sings at the end of the song?

Bruce has done better covers of it, unfortunately that's the only one I can find on YouTube.

Ricky Nelson's "Garden Party" mentions Yoko and Dylan, and describes but doesn't name Chuck Berry.

  7. Van Morrison: "Jackie Wilson Said."
Van Morrison -- "In The Days Before Rock And Roll."
