    Live versions often are better when they go up-tempo a bit, as Edmunds does here ...



    The crowds at live shows already are adrenalized, so push that beat a little harder.

    I always liked Dave Edmunds version of "I knew the bride" better. I think it's that straight ahead 4/4 beat.

    The guy on rhythm guitar looks a whole lot like Steve Cropper, but no pony tail.

    Petty's "American Girl" is great. But for me it's forever associated with Buffalo Bill and his white-panel van abduction of the Senator's daughter in "Silence of the Lambs."
