Soccer terminology in stories

    I would only gradually introduce soccer terminology into a gamer depending on your audience.

    If you write for a publication of avid soccer fanatics, you could get away with using terms like "booking." If your audience is the general sports reader, I'd steer clear of the term and use "yellow card" or "red card" as appropriate.

    I've written for both a general sports audience when I covered Maryland's men's soccer team for my current shop and for the fanatic when I wrote for a fan Web site. I wrote differently in each case.
