Soccer terminology help

    It's a myth because it used to be a fact. It wasn't until the late 90s that a goal could be scored directly from a kickoff.

    It could have been a poorly played match. Sometimes, BoomBall works. It's ugly soccer to be certain, but in some areas you'll get that and like it.
     
  3. GWB is correct. A goal may be scored directly on a kickoff. A goal can also be scored directly on a goal kick, but not on a punt or throw-in without a second touch (by either team). A lot of goalkeepers get into the bad habit of moving up to the 18 (that's the penalty area, FYI) to support the defense on kickoffs, and this what happens when you move off your line unless you're playing a ball.
