Soccer question

    My state changed the rules this year, at least for the purpose of qualifying and seeding the tournament. Shootout losses are now treated as ties.

    But that's just the state's regulation. The newspaper still adds a loss to the team's record.

    Kansas can't make up its mind. Sometimes even during the season, it seems, one group of officials will say there's no shootout/PK procedure and others will say there is.

    I remember an instance a couple of years ago where two teams played overtime when they weren't supposed to. Since it was the officiating crew's error, the league let the result stand.

    We ask EACH crew we have at home games if there will be a regular overtime, a "silver goal" overtime or a "golden goal" overtime. The only thing they were consistent on last year was that there were PK's ONLY in tournaments because someone had to advance.
