    Wow. A Jami Gertz reference.

We've officially mentioned everyone who acted in any movie in the 1980s.

Some Jami Gertz trivia: She turned down the Monica role in Friends that went to Courtney Cox.

But she got Still Standing, so, y'know, it's all good.

I see your King of Queens and raise you with According to Jim

And if its a TV show, everyone who works at a newspaper on TV is a columnist, has their own office, can afford a two story house, and never worries about layoffs despite being on the wrong side of 40.

Really the "newspaper reporter" motif of the plucky underdog and the TV person as an airhead will have to start being revised. I know it is a cinematic short-hand, but newspapers (print edition) are getting to be as anachronistic as a huge cell phone, a typewriter or a green eyeshade.

I vote for Jami Gertz for the ex-wife in a sportswriter's life story ... Any male sportswriter who managed to stay married to her on his salary and with his hours would have to be played by Brad Pitt or somebody.

yeah, I totally bought Gertz married to Mark Addy (with a kid in high school) in Still Standing.

I think her big comeback was a few episodes on ER.

That characterization can be blamed on this particular Sacramento Register employee:

Although, to be fair, he didn't have a housekeeper or butler like every other widowed father on TV. He just went out and convinced a Broadway legend to marry him and become an instant stepmother to eight kids. What a guy!

    Fuck that guy.

He was a racist and Mike Seaver refused to work for him.
