McGregor was great for UFC - one of the few fighters who lasted long enough to "break through" - but the problem was his "act" wasn't an act. Maybe he felt he had to keep topping himself or what - but it kind grows old quickly.

Says a lot about the UFC that it's been six months since the last post - I'm not even much of a fan, but found Rousey and McGregor entertaining figures.
Figure both McGregor and the UFC need each other a WHOLE lot more than either would want to admit. McGregor returning to the octogon is like those comedic actors who strive to be taken seriously in dramatic roles returning to playing doofuses because they need to be in a movie that makes money.

Didn't UFC just got about 4-5 billion from ESPN in their TV deal? I feel like McGregor might need them a little more these days.

Ill admit my fandom has lapsed. Their PPV buys have more or less cratered. Used to hook up with buddies and split almost every show. We’ve bought 3 out of 10 this year.

Its not McGregor or Rousey, for us, its over saturation and over promotion. The undercards suck. 10 years ago you bought a show and got 5 name fights. Now those name undercards are headlining their 402 TV and streaming shows. The PPVs are not worth the price.

    It's the Dana White Problem.

Until there's more than one legitimate sanctioning body and more than one legitimate promotional mechanism and more than one legitimate managerial structure, it's all just a Dana White television show.

And that show is an ongoing conflict of interest dependent entirely on one guy.

Due respect to the other MMA tours, the sport will be lucky to survive him.

Figure the sale a few years back requires UFC to put on a lot more shows to make that $4b sale price back - cable and PPV. More shows require more fighters and it's always been a tough sport to develop stars between the no tomato can policy and the frequency of the fights. There is just one undefeated champion right now, both men and womens divisions.
