    The other purely anecdotal response is when something big happens -- local team wins title for example -- the paper sells out. So it would imply that people still value the newspaper for its permanence but that those people buying that edition don't value it on a day-to-day basis.

    A third purely anecdotal response is that a significant majority of people are disengaged from their communities, thus disengaged from 90 percent of the news it generates.
