I would argue that Ryan Reynolds or Gerard Butler is the biggest star to host this season and that's pretty sad.

It ceased to be all about A-listers years ago and more about hyping movies, concert tours and TV shows -- even more than in the past.

It also used to be an honor to be associated with a talented cast. When I was watching SNL when I was in high school with the cast with Miller, Carvey, Hartman, Nealon, Myers, Hooks, Lovitz, etc... it seemed liked there was an A-lister every week.

Here was the host list from 1990-91

    "Kyle MacLachlan" - C.
    "Susan Lucci" - C
"George Steinbrenner" - B, but still a pretty good get.
"Patrick Swayze" - A Arguably the most popular actor 20 years ago, fresh off Ghost
"Jimmy Smits" B at the time
    "Dennis Hopper" B
John Goodman - A, one of the best hosts ever.
Tom Hanks - A, one of the best hosts ever,
    Dennis Quaid B+
Joe Mantegna - This was right when Goodfellas came out. B.
    Sting B+
    Kevin Bacon A-/B+
Roseanne Barr A, the biggest comedian working at the time.
Alec Baldwin - A, one of the best hosts ever.
    Michael J. Fox - A
Jeremy Irons B, but this was just before he won the Oscar.
Catherine O'Hara - B, Right when Home Alone came out.
Steven Seagal - A, Seagal was huge 20 years ago.
    "Delta Burke" - C
    "George Wendt" - A-/B+

Taylor Swift is much bigger and she was great. Ashton Kutcher and Chuck Barkley are no D-listers either.

Don't know if anyone saw Jude Law's latest hosting effort. Some decent bits, Law auditioning for Hamlet with Al Pacino, Sam Elliott and Nathan Lane; a takeoff on the Twilight Zone episode "Terror at 30,000 feet", a Really?!! bit on WU with Meyers and Seinfeld about Massa, - but they had two skits back to back about men killing women. That's funny?

The spoof of the ridiculous Broadview Security ad was very funny.

I liked Law's line during the password like game show for Vodka: You drink it for breakfast, with some beets... I laughed out loud, which is rare for SNL these days.

Out of town but I set the DVR before I left.
I'm excited to see what they do with her, and how many random celebrities make appearances.
    Next week is Alec Baldwin!

That was an awesome list of guest stars. The musical acts were pretty good too.
