The alt-weekly Boston Phoenix is apologizing for repeating a slur about Shaughnessy's wife in a story.

    http://thephoenix.com/article_ektid46373.aspx

The online version of the story has had the slur removed. Anyone know what the deal is?

    What was the slur?

    That's what I was wondering.

That's a pretty over-the-top apology, so I'm assuming lawyers got involved.

and finally, the slur was posted by a reader in the comments section on barstoolsports.com.

    Thanks.

I did do a search for it, but I may have been in the wrong forum.

Is "I had sex with Shaughnessy's wife" a slur? Because if so, Clubber is in BIG trouble.

  7. Something called Barstool Sports gets quoted as an authority on anything except (maybe) belching?
I love the new media age.

Why should The Phoenix be held liable for repeating a slur listed in a blog?

Come on, certain things are off-limits. Even the Mob and gangstas leave family members out of their conflicts. Phoenix could have summed it up, saying that Shaughnessy critics have been known to denigrate his family.

I would think "she's Dan Shaughnessy's wife" would be slur enough.

"i fucked shaughnessey's wife once when he way away."

Is that the slur we're talking about?

Look, it's classless as all hell, and I don't even know why it belonged in the story in the first place, except that it illustrates some fans' senseless hatred for this guy.

    But worthy of a lawsuit?
