While I love the association of this number with SJ.com, its association with the city of Toronto drives me crazy. I can’t even figure out why it exists. I’ve heard it’s because the main area code here ends in 6.

So lame. So fucking lame.

According to the article, the nickname came from a Drake song. So I assume the ties to the city run far deeper than a rap lyric.

 

But they would be 8.5s in Winnipeg.

I made another trip to Toronto a few years back, and I took a photo for old time’s sake.

 

Not sure if I like the connotation of a singular nickname. A city the size of Toronto, there must be plenty of 6's.
