Re: SportsJournalists.com Memorial Day 500 (or so) rock songs

My first year in college we just sat & listened to one of these on the old KRock for way too long, capturing the top 50 on cassette. It was there (in the 400s) that I heard one of the most interesting songs I've ever heard - Hocus Pocus by Focus.

I guess these countdowns aren't just a thing of the past.

A quick Google search that any modern-day, lazy college student could do [/crossthread] revealed these:

And of course, those of you from Chicago-land might remember these:

That WLS chart reminded me of the old CHUM chart that was always available in your local record store (RIP) every - I think - Friday. I suspect JR and Friend O' the Friendless might remember these too.

"The Only Living Boy in New York" - Simon and Garfunkel

Understood on your point of view, Shot. But it said something to me ... think the passage about the father, not the little one. And that it was that group with a certain member was a near-coincidence.

It can certainly be perceived as preachy. But Mike Rutherford has never come across with that tone in any of his interviews.

    Here's a preliminary count of votes ...

    Top bands/artists:
    Pearl Jam 9, Beatles 8, Led Zeppelin 8, U2 8, Rolling Stones 7, Bruce Springsteen 6, Van Halen 5, Prince 4, Guns n Roses 4, The Who 4, Nirvana 4, REM 4

There's a whole lot of bands with 3 songs.

Top songs SO FAR: "Santa Monica," Everclear; "Better Man," Pearl Jam and (of course :)) "Stairway to Heaven," Led Zeppelin — all have 3 votes

Again, there are several more songs with 2 votes each.

Overall, we have votes for 398 songs. I'll cut things off Friday and start countin' em down.

    Thanks for all the votes!

For the "top songs so far list" -- I've never seen Pearl Jam live, but I have seen "Better Man" live in a killer version:
