SJ.com cat people, I humbly ask for your advice

My cat was on an all-dry-food diet until my parents kept him for a month while I was on the road. My mom, who had two cats and a dog since before I was born until both cats dies last fall, is still in the habit of feeding the animals after she gets home from work (4 or 5 p.m.). So I get home, reclaim my cat and, on the first day he's back home, at 4:15 p.m. he sits down in front of his water/food dishes and starts meowing.

He's been getting wet food (1/2 a can) every afternoon since. Damn mothers.
