State Senators are usually referred to as State Senators to avoid confusion with US Senators. You're constant reference to him as just a Senator makes me wonder if you don't realize he was a State Senator.

People joke about it here, but this is genuinely the trade-off we've made. Gun violence overall is down from prior decades. No one is really sure exactly why. Maybe these sorts of shootings will also recede at some point. But guns aren't going anywhere.
