It's not freedom in any sense of the word. It's the price we pay for our cowardice in confronting an angry minority of losers, many but hardly all white men, for whom the firearm means power over others. Maybe if one such loser shoots up the Congress or knocks off a Supreme Court justice, that'd change. But my guess is not. Fear is the default mode of the citizenry of what claims to be the most powerful nation on earth.

I wonder where he would have gotten the idea to shoot up a movie theater.

He apparently had a lengthy criminal record, so if he'd have switched lanes without signaling on his way to the theater, a cop could've just shot him in the head then and prevented all of this.

At least the shooter wasn't Muslim, so we'll be spared the outrage. I keep hearing Obama is going to take everyone's guns. When does that start?

Do these shootings make page 1 anymore?

Remember, there was not a senator killed in this shooting.

They do, but that's not where the action is at these days. Cable news sets the public discourse.

Looks like it could have been worse:

Within minutes of the first gunshots, two officers, who were already on the property at the time of the shooting, entered the theater, according to Craft.

“As they made their way into the crowd, they heard a shot, and upon entering the theater, the suspect was found deceased from a self-inflited gunshot wound,”

We've been told numerous times that piles of dead people (whether Marines, kindergartners, theater-goers, senators, etc.) don't trump your constitutional rights.

Therefore, this is the way it is in America.

It's not news. It's the status quo.
