Sad that even needs to be explained here.
You guys do know the difference between the pistol and an improvisational scramble, right?
Let's clear this up before we proceed any further.

The pistol is a formation, not a type of run, like a scramble.
Its sad that needs to even be explained here.

Fair enough. I agree with you. But to trade as much as Washington did to draft a guy No. 2 overall who isn't more than a passing fad strikes me as awfully odd. To make that kind of investment, you gotta believe the guy is legit.

I figure Griffin is nowhere as good as some people were claiming last December and nowhere near as bad as some people are saying today.

Ok, fair enough. But you don't draft a guy who's top asset is his mobility and tell him not to run.

The difference between Steve Young and Colin Kaepernick or Vick is why we need to stop referring to Russell Wilson as a "running QB" like he's Kaep or RGIII. He's a lot more like Andrew Luck that those two guys. He moves in and outside the pocket to make throws. He's not at all like Vick was early in his career.

Elway was supposed to be a 'running QB' coming out of college. After getting blasted around his first couple seasons, he cut way way back on that.

Staubach had almost as many rushing attempts (168) as passing attempts (192) in his Heisman Trophy season at Navy but as a pro he never ran more than 55 times in a season.

You use the mobility primarily to make plays in the passing game, and sometimes to get positive rushing yardage from negative plays. Do you design some runs for the QB? Sure. But that's not your bread and butter (or even your toast and jam).

Kaepernick doesn't appear sharp enough to absorb the intricacies of a pro offense.
He really seems to be as dumb as they come.
