"SI's" Verducci: Bud Selig is so flippin' awesome!

Paywall-protected piece, but Sports Illustrated lead baseball writer Tom Verducci this week writes a gushing paen to MLB's current postseason, with a little "wassup!" tossed in for his boss at MLB Network, Bud Selig:

    http://www.sportsillustratedeverywhere.com/issues/protected/com.timeinc.si.web.inapp.10072013/its-anyones-october-25702.html

"[T]ime-and the successful mission of commissioner Bud Selig for a more democratic game-has turned Beane, like Copernicus, from heretic to visionary."

SI must have again accidentally edited out the disclosure that Verducci gets his beer money from Major League Baseball.

David Price does not think that Verducci is awesome:

Didn't Verducci play baseball in college?

I don't know what's the source of Price's anger, but Hayhurst really drains energy out of that studio show. He's pretty terrible.

    Pedro Martinez is surprisingly insightful.

Disagree 100%. I think he's one of the best parts of the show ... and they're all damn good. It's become must-watch TV for me every day, and Hayhurst is a big reason why.

Hayhurst is Olbermann's pet, just as Rachel Maddow was.

Say what you want about Selig, the second wild-card was a great addition. Not so much for the extra team making the post-season, but to give the division winners a bigger edge in the divisional series by forcing the WCs to burn their aces in the wildcard game, and adding some late-season drama for teams not being satisfied with being one of the WCs.
