The pharmaceutical industry takes a beating for many reasons, not the least of which is that they sell pills that take 20 cents to manufacture for $4 apiece.

What the bashers choose to ignore is that developing the first pill may have cost that company $250 million.

There is no significant incremental cost for Sirius to add (or renew) a customer these days. But they had to slingshot several very expensive satellites into geo-sync orbit many months before they signed up their first customer. And those birds will start dropping into the Pacific Ocean some day down the road, so they need to start saving for a replacement now (assuming Chapter 7-11-13 doesn't happen first).

If high speed Internet ever becomes widely available in cars satellite radio is toast.

I'm no trouble. In the three years I was a customer, I called them one time -- to renew, two years ago. And I'm not costing them any money. Their satellite is already in space, it's already beaming a signal at my car. They've already paid all their talent, and paid for licenses for their music. Whether I'm a customer or not, they're paying all those bills. I offered them $100 and they told me no. It is found money, because their operation is exactly the same in every way with or without me, the difference is that with me they've got $100 extra dollars.

They don't beam it to your car until you order it. So if you shut it off, there goes the signal. I have no idea what the costs are regarding beaming signals.
