Let's hope they keep the Oprah Channel, for God's sake!

If true, I hope they keep the XM method of grouping sports channels. Sirius' is so haphazard it had to be done by a pathetitard. (A reach to use that SportsJournalists.com term, which I hope I spelled correctly.)

So ... with $1 billion in debt, I'm wondering if I should purchase Sirius (My car is Sirius-ready ... that's why I'd go that route.). What's to say they'll be around for the year of my subscription would run? OTOH, if they merge, rates could rise for new subscribers.

    Oh the insanity.

Like we didn't all see this coming... ::)

I've got XM. As long as they don't fuck with the old-school rap station AND bring me Howard Stern, I'll be cool with it.

If this means I can now get Margaritaville Radio then I'm a happy guy.

Around Xmas I was considering getting satellite radio. The guy at the store told me two things:
    1) Sirius and XM will merge this year
    2) Rates will go up, so buy now.

However, it can be reasoned he threatened the rate increase just to make an immediate sale.

Even if it is officially announced, I doubt any merger would be complete for at least another year.

I cancelled my SIRIUS recently. Wasn't worth the $12.95. Of course if you drive a lot I guess it would be.

I have XM and I rarely use it.

I think a lot of it depends on what type of device you have... I have a portable one and I use it all the time (especially on planes and when traveling)... If I just had one that was in my car, I probably wouldn't continue to use the service.

This graph is all I need to know about this merger ...

A consolidation is seen as way to save hundreds of million of dollars in redundant costs, but the FCC may resist a merger which would eliminate competition in the satellite radio market.

I can't imagine the FCC allowing them to mesh into one channel. I figured this would be the case.

What is the monthly fee for XM and Sirius?

I've considered getting XM a couple times (especially for the baseball), but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Not sure if I'd use it enough really.
