I think the "gutsy" part was the idea of using the front page as only an editorial.

Add to say: "I think what people meant by the 'gutsy' part."

I know there was something I missed about this, and that's the fact that the movie "Bully," which has been getting a tremendous amount of press, focused on Sioux City.

    So the spotlight was there.

Han: I think you overreached with the Kony comparison.

The bullying issue has been around a long time, though clearly as someone else noted it's being used as a synonym for gay-bashing.

We had that run in a month last year where there were six or seven bullying/gay-bashing suicides.

I do understand what you mean. We go through cycles with these things. (Hazing comes up in a cycle sometimes, so do "bad parents at Little League games).

But I think this is one that's been -- and will be -- around.

As far as someone's comment that it was around 35 years ago, but it was seen more as "kids being kids," and we didn't have the Internet to carry the bullying and the news.

    Try reading the editorial.

The time peg is right there.

I'd be more inclined to make a big splash on the front page with *reporting*. Tell me what's going on. Explain how this is such a big deal today. Get at the story from multiple angles -- recent incidents, the amplifying effect of the Internet, how it's affecting local youth sports, etc.

Then have a massive refer to the editorial. I'm usually a stickler for news/editorial separation, but I don't mind telling the edit page that we're doing a giant front-page spread on Topic A, and we'll be happy to share our info with you and refer to your take on it.

If this boy's suicide is the most talked about story in town; and if the paper has covered it extensively as a news story; and if part of a newspaper's job is to function as the conscience of its community, I have no problem with this running out front.

I live in one of Virginia's liberal havens, but I go out to the rural counties all the time, counties Obama's never going to carry in a million years, and I've never heard him called that. Now, I've heard him called a socialist, a terrorist, an asshole and any number of other names, but nothing that rhymes with trigger.

Define "many", because I'm calling BS.

Where do you hear the President referred to as a n****r? In what kind of setting? How often?

People are just carelessly throwing around this term, in reference to the President, in your presence?

I can only think of one poster on this board who ever refers to President Obama by anything other than, "President Obama," or some other respectful variant of the same.

President Bush was/is regularly referred to as Shrub, Fredo, President Dimwit, etc. on this board.

So, spare be your concern for the respect for the Office.

How about the Oval Office was repainted "high yellow" for Obama?
